According to "Inside Death Row / At San Quentin, 647 condemned killers wait to die in the most populous execution antechamber in the United States" by Peter Fimrite, a journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle, completed in 1854, San Quentin State Prison is California's oldest prison. This facility is also the only prison in California where executions can take place (3-4). This site details information about the death row of San Quentin, the escape attempts from the prison, the history of it, notable documentaries filmed about the prison, Stanley "Tookie" Williams, and what an execution is like.
