Education
Getting a degree while being incarcerated may seem unfair to the innocent people walking around the streets, but as for the inmates inside of these correctional facilities it is a way for them to get out and stay out. Studies show that if the inmates have the access to the education they need while incarcerated, then the recidivism rates will decrease. There are different ways to obtain the same results though. In the year 1994, President Bill Clinton ended felons being eligible for Pell Grants. A Pell Grant is a grant that the government offers college students that does not need to be paid back. Once Clinton ended this it saved the United States approximately $35 million per year. Although there is a toss up, either spend the money on education for prisoners, which might decrease the chances of offending again, or spend more money having them incarcerated again. Almost every prison in the United States has a problem with overcrowding. Multiple prisons take in more people then their maximum capacity.
